Symptoms

Diagnosis
Chiropractic care can be an extremely effective treatment for shoulder pain regardless of its cause. A chiropractor will often begin with an examination of the patient's neck area since shoulder pain can frequently be the result of "referred" pain from the neck. Whether the shoulder pain is connected to the neck or is limited to the lower part of the shoulder, it can generally be treated with non-invasive methods of natural healing such as chiropractic care.
Treatment
Care for an injured shoulder may include application of heat, application of ice packs, gentle manipulation from the chiropractor to help the shoulder return to its original state of functionality, and gentle stretching and strengthening exercises that the patient can perform at home.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN STANDARD MEDICAL CARE AND WELLNESS CARE ?
Wellness care seeks to turn on the natural healing ability, not by adding something to the system, but by removing anything that might interfere with normal function, trusting that the body would know what to do if nothing were interfering with it. Standard medical care, on the other hand, seeks to treat a symptom by adding something from the outside – a medication, a surgery or procedure.

Inside Out vs. Outside In

If a patient has high blood pressure, a standard medical approach would be to choose a drug that lowers blood pressure, and ask the patient to take the drug. This may serve to lower the blood pressure, but ignores the underlying cause that is making the blood pressure high, and runs the risk of side effects complicating the person’s recovery. Whether it’s a nutritional issue, faulty control by the nerve system or a manifestation of stress, the medication could decrease the blood pressure, leaving the problem causing the symptom of high blood pressure unaddressed.

The Wellness Approach

Wellness is a state of optimal conditions for normal function… and then some. The wellness approach is to look for underlying causes of any disturbance or disruption (which may or may not be causing symptoms at the time) and make whatever interventions and lifestyle adjustments would optimize the conditions for normal function. Dr. Evan R. Price graduated from Parker College of Chiropractic located in Dallas Texas, August 1996. He went on to continue his education at Parker College, studying Acupuncture and Meridian Therapy earning a Diplomat in Acupuncture. After several years in practice, he studied at the International Academy of Medical Acupuncture under direction of Dr. John Amaro, a world renowned acupuncturist. Prior to attending Parker College, he had a mentor which guided him to want to practice alternative medicine in his community. Gerald H. Price, Physical Therapist, diligently taught his son various methods to treat the human body in conjunction or in lieu of traditional medicine. Since opening Price Chiropractic in 1997, Dr. Price has instilled his own medical practices to effectively treat his patients with the care and compassion they deserve. To this day, those values in which he learned from colleagues, family and friends alike remain a staple in his practice.

Both infants and adults can benefit from ongoing chiropractic care. In the chiropractic world, keeping the problem fixed and preventing its reoccurrence is just as important as the initial remedy.

What truly differentiates doctors of chiropractic from any other healthcare professionals is the fact that chiropractors are the only professionals who are trained to diagnose and treat what are called spinal subluxations. The word “subluxation” comes from the Latin words meaning “somewhat or slight" (sub) and “to dislocate” (luxate). So the term ‘vertebral subluxation’ literally means a slight dislocation or misalignment of the bones in the spine. When a subluxation occurs, a chiropractor can correct the misaligned bone and allow it to return to its proper position. This procedure is appropriately called an adjustment, and the adjustment enables the body to heal. The chiropractic adjustment is a quick thrust applied to a vertebra for the purpose of correcting its position, movement or both. Adjustments are often accompanied by an audible release of gas that sounds like a “crack.” The sound sometimes shocks people a little bit the first couple times they get adjusted, but the sensation is usually relieving. Occasionally, minor discomfort is experienced, especially if the surrounding muscles are in spasm or the patient tenses up during the chiropractic procedure. There are times when the audible “cracking” does not occur. This is often due to either significant muscle tightness or that the patient may be having a hard time relaxing during their adjustments. However, the chiropractic adjustment is still important. The leak is fixed. The wiring is fixed. Information is flowing again. To keep the wiring fixed, several adjustments over a course of time may be necessary, in addition to massage, physical therapy, stretching exercises, or strengthening exercises. In the chiropractic world, keeping the problem fixed and preventing its reoccurrence is just as important as the initial remedy. There are actually five components that contribute to the vertebral subluxation complex (VSC).

Bone Component-where the vertebra is either out of position, not moving properly, or are undergoing degeneration. This frequently leads to a narrowing of the spaces between the bones through which the nerves pass; often resulting in irritation or impingement of the nerve itself.
Nerve Component-is the disruption of the normal flow of energy along the nerve fibers, causing the messages traveling along the nerves to become distorted. The result is that all of the tissues that are fed by those nerves receive distorted signals from the brain and, consequently, are not able to function normally. Over time, this can lead to a whole host of conditions, such as peptic ulcers, constipation and other organ system dysfunction.
Muscular Component-since nerves control the muscles that help hold the vertebrae in place, muscles have to be considered to be an integral part of the vertebral subluxation complex. In fact, muscles both affect, and are affected by the VSC. A subluxation can irritate a nerve, the irritated nerve can cause a muscle to spasm, the spasmed muscle pulls the attached vertebrae further out of place, which then further irritates the nerve and you have a vicious cycle. It is no wonder that very few subluxations just go away by themselves.
Soft Tissue Component-the VSC will also affect the surrounding tendons, ligaments, blood supply, and other tissues as the misaligned vertebrae tug and squeeze the connective tissue with tremendous force. Over time, the soft tissues can become stretched out or scarred, leaving the spine with either a permanent instability or restriction.
Chemical Component-is the change in the chemistry of the body due to the VSC. Most often, the chemical changes, such as the release of a class of chemicals called “kinins,” are pro-inflammatory; meaning that they increase inflammation in the affected area.

These changes get progressively worse over time if they are not treated correctly, leading to chronic pain, inflammation, arthritis, muscle trigger points, the formation of bone spurs, loss of movement, as well as muscle weakness and spasm. Chiropractors have known the dangers of the vertebral subluxation complex ever since the birth of the profession. More and more scientific research is demonstrating the tremendous detrimental impact that subluxations have on the tissue of the body. In order to be truly healthy, it is vital that your nervous system be functioning free of interference from subluxations. Dr. Price is an excellent chiropractor. I would recommend him to anyone. I had surgery on my left shoulder. Even after the surgery I couldn't lift anything that was not extremely light. Because of the treatments with Dr. Price I am feeing much better, and wthout pain. Paul Ringer

Recently I started working at Price Chiropractic as a massage therapist. I would like to thank Dr. Price for the opportunity to work with him and his great patients . My name is Julia Hunt and I graduated from Cortiva Institute of massage therapy located in Scottsdale, Az. I was introduced to massage by another massage therapist that improved the way I felt . Massage is Beneficial for everybody. Helping people was what lead me to become a massage therapist.

My goal is to improve the body and mind, by relaxing and stretching the Muscular system of our bodies. It also increases flexibility and blood circulation by stimulating the circulatory system to improve better overall health. Massage relieves stress and helps injured muscles repair quickly for a faster recovery. Massage can give you well being and reduce muscle tightness so that the patient can feel comfort.

A dry and warm climate like Scottsdale, AZ is great for your muscles and back pain. It is when the climate change occurs that the pain starts. When clear and warm sky's change to cold and dark is when the problem starts. Our body's hate drastic changes. So when the cold starts to hit us our muscles tighten and our body’s ache. Dr. Price uses a verity of different types of treatments. One type is Chiropractic. With Chiropractic, I can adjust the body’s biomechanics. Both these modalities are very effective in restoring the health to your body.

I am a Scottsdale Az, Chiropractor in the downtown area. As I drive around Scottsdale I see all types of Auto accidents. These Accidents are all very different. Some of the Car accidents have a ton of damage and some may only have a small dent. Some Car accidents people just plan lose control and may hit something other than a Car.

All these accidents small or large will have an effect on you. Most of the injuries I see being a Scottsdale Chiropractor are soft tissue type injuries. Pain Management for the Back and Your Environment.
Being a Scottsdale Chiropractor, I see all kinds of patients that have neck or Lower back pain. You could say that is what we see the most of. Back Pain could come from many sources. It could come from a Car Accident or Sports Injury. There are all kinds of ways it could happen. Most people don't know it could come from our environments. I mean that your home or your work areas could be the culprit. Most of the Scottsdale Chiropractors understand that if you have an old bed that does not support you any more then that could be the culprit. If you have a bad couch that sinks when you sit on it that could be the culprit. Working around the house and yard work could be it.

What is a "Healthy Spine"?

Subluxation: when one or more of the bones of your spine (vertebrae) move out of position and create pressure on, or irritate spinal nerves.

The above image shows a subluxation to the left and a contrasting healthy spine on the right. The subluxation is creating pressure on the discs between the vertebrae which cushion your spine for everyday movements and most importantly, controlled falling (a.k.a. walking). Price Chiropractic of Scottsdale is committed to using the highest quality research and clinical grade instrumentation avaialble for the purpose of detecting and correcting the Vertebral Subluxation. We use the MyoVision software and complete sEMG exams in our office and print out the reports for you to take home.

What does sEMG stand for?

sEMG stands for Surface Electromyography. sEMG is a device which measure the amount of electrical activity your muscles release when they are contracting, more commonly known as muscle tension. It is similar in function to an EKG which measures heart muscle activity.

Is it painful?

Not at all. It is totally non-invasive and does not cause pain or irritation. this makes it totally safe for infants, children, pregnant women or seniors. It simply requires the placement of small probes against the skin, with the test taking less than a few minutes.

Why is muscle activity important?

Muscles have a tendency to "brace" in response to spinal misalignments known as Vertebral Subluxations. These subluxations create nerve interference which affect muscles, blood vessels and internal organs.

What do the results mean?

Colors indicate levels of tension: average are green, pink are moderately high, and red are high levels of tension. Yellow readings indicate abnormally low, or fatigued muscles. Arrows indicate imbalance.

How does this relate to chiropractic?

Vertebral Subluxations reduc your body's ability to maintain optimal health. When Vertebral Subluxations are present, the nervous system is negatively affected resulting in increases or decreases in muscle activity. the sEMG shows the muscular component of the Vertebral Subluxation Complex. Dr. Price's job is to detect and correct these Vertebral Subluxations by a simple and effective procedure called an "adjustment."

How do chiropractic adjustments affect my sEMG?
